County Schools Wrestling Start Dates.

Return to wrestling for 2021 is a mixed and uncertain bag. The Corona-19 virus has had devastating effects on the country, the state, and high school sports. As we enter the last week of 2020 we would have expected to see a number of duals and tournaments already that have taken place. County Cancelleations of 2021 Winter Seasons

On January 5th an actual high school wrestling match took place. In Carroll County who briefly and in a limited fashion returned to athletics had a dual meet between South Carroll High School and Winters Mill High School. Carroll County is wrestling an abbreviated schedule of in county matches only. South Carroll won the dual 50-15. Other Carroll county matches scheduled for the day were cancelled/postponed due to Covid-19 concerns. Then shoes began to drop around the state. Baltimore County to Resume Youth Sports

Baltimore County to resume sports, but it may be too late for the high school wrestling season. TOWSON, MD — Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski today issued an Executive Order stating that amateur sports events, including high school, youth, and/or recreational games, clinics, skills sessions, scrimmages and practices, may restart effective Monday, February 1, 2021. Outdoor Sports Attendance at organized amateur sports events held outdoors is limited to: Players; Referees and/or officials; Trainers, coaches and staff; and One parent or guardian per participant. Maybe One League State Championship To Go

The 2021 Maryland high school wrestling season has been one for the books. Looked at from an overview the season was a disaster as no county or league was able to compete completely as they had in the past. Carroll County was able to hold an abbreviated in county schedule that ended with a county championship that crowned individual champions, but yielded no team scores. National Preps This Weekend

The Maryland Private School State championship was cancelled due to a lack of interest from participant schools. Not surprising perhaps as many of those wrestlers are now in the middle of their spring sport seasons. Over the weekend the National High School Coaches Wrestling championships took place in Virginia Beach, VA. Many Maryland wrestlers participated and did well in an event that is usually the end cap on the wrestling season.
