2012 Still the same
29/January/2012 12:39 AM
As the regular season begins to wind down it is some usual faces in the usual places in the State. McDonogh school sits atop the MIAA, Georgetown Prep atop the IAC, Dematha atop the WCAC. In the publics it looks like Owings Mills is still top dog in Baltimore County, Winters Mill in Carroll County, River Hill in Howard, Stephen Decatur in the Baysides and Magruder in Montgomery. A new team to emerge is South River in Anne Arundel County.
It is sad to see some old tournaments die but the Romp In the Swamp, which was the BIG 20, which was the Dundalk Tournament is no longer around, nor is the more recent and highly competitive Mount Mat Madness, which itself was formerly the Hammond Tournament.
The next big event in Maryland is the inaugural MIAA A conference Dual Meet championship. The MIAA has been split into two divisions a Black division currently led by the McDonogh Eagles, currently ranked #1team in the state by the MSWA, and the Red Division, currently led by the Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers, the Defending MIAA and MIS state champions and currently ranked #4 by the MSWA. Between the two teams there are currently 8 individual state championships.
As usual anyone who wants to contribute to this archive with either personal recollections or information is welcome to contribute.

Lots of new teams at the top

It has been a very exciting year for Maryland wrestling, not least because of the new faces at the top. So far there is a new MIS state champion-- Archbishop Spalding, a new 1A/2A Dual Meet champion-- Glenelg, and a new 3A/4A champion-- LaPlata.
Several big counties also saw a changing of the guard. Anne Arundel crowned South River, Howard saw Glenelg get the top spot, and UCBAC gave it to Rising Sun. In the Privates Spalding dethroned Mount St. Joe in the MIAA and Good Council dethroned Dematha in the WCAC.
Biggest dual meet-- blog it live.

In an attempt to allow the fans who are there to comment on the action for those who cannot make it a Live blog feed is available here.
Unfortunately because of the snow the match has been postponed until thursday at 6:00-- or potentially Saturday at 1:00 depending on the road conditions.
Update: Snow has caused this dual meet to be rescheduled for Saturday 1/30 at 1:30 at McDonogh. Those who can make it blog it for those who can't.
MATCH ON!!! AS OF SATURDAY MORNING
